Geocell Panel Connection Methods: 4 Ways to Join
Geocell panel connection, or interlocking, is essential for joining geocell panels together so that the length or width matches the requirements in the design drawings / shop drawings.
There are several methods for joining geocell, including:
There are several methods for joining geocell, including:
- Keylock (geocell connector)
The keylock is specially designed to connect geocell panel sections
The keylock is specially designed to connect one geocell panel to another more quickly and easily, and using keylocks also helps speed up geocell installation. Joining geocell panels with keylocks is also claimed to be 3x stronger and 3x faster. Adjacent holes in the geocell panels are joined to keep them from moving or deforming during infilling.

- Cable ties
Adjacent panels can also be joined with cable ties. The cable ties are threaded through the slots or holes of each neighboring panel.

- Tendons and anchor pins
Tendons and anchor pins are usually used on steep slopes where additional bearing capacity is needed, or where “J-pins” cannot be used because the base or walls are rock or a geomembrane liner and the like. Tendons and anchor pins usually consist of high-strength polyester cord or steel wire rope.

- Staples
Panels to be joined can also be connected with staples. The staples are driven through each adjacent panel. The recommended number for various geocell panel heights is listed in the table.
