HDPE geomembrane lining in a wastewater pond

The biggest challenge in managing wastewater ponds is preventing leaks of hazardous chemicals that can pollute the soil. The main solution is an impermeable HDPE geomembrane liner with non-woven geotextile underneath to protect the membrane from punctures by gravel or coarse soil.

In special conditions such as peatland or existing ponds, gas is often trapped under the geomembrane and causes it to balloon (uplift), which can damage the liner. To solve this, a gas release system using solid HDPE pipe provides a safe path to vent the gas pressure.

Besides gas, peatland and areas with a high groundwater table also create hydrostatic pressure that can shift the pond structure. That is why an underdrain system with perforated HDPE pipe and a filter medium is installed to drain groundwater seepage effectively and keep the pond stable.

This combination of geosynthetic technologies provides complete, environmentally safe protection. By controlling the risk of leaks, gas pressure and groundwater flow, wastewater pond infrastructure becomes much stronger and lasts much longer.
