GRASS PAVER
A grass paver is a paving structure that replaces asphalt, paving blocks or concrete grass blocks. It is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with precisely sized cells in which grass or ground cover plants can grow. Grass pavers have very high compressive strength, carrying heavy vehicle loads of up to 175 tons/m2, and the open cells let plant roots anchor firmly in the soil below.
Functions
FUNCTIONS OF GRASS PAVER
Grass paver functions include:
- Better Groundwater Infiltration: The open cells let rainwater soak straight into the ground, effectively preventing puddles and local flooding.
- Prevents Erosion and Subsidence: The paver grid locks the soil surface so it is not easily washed away by water or cracked under vehicle loads.
- Keeps Green Open Space Green: Provides paving for roads or car parks without reducing the share of green space on the site.
- Protects Grass Roots from Damage: The paver grid takes the vehicle weight directly, so the grass inside is not crushed or killed.
Applications
GRASS PAVER APPLICATIONS
In Indonesia, this material can be used in many types of infrastructure projects, including:
- Car Parks
- Footpaths
- Fire Access Lanes
- Residential Roads
- Golf Cart/Caddy Cart Paths
Types
TYPES OF GRASS PAVER
HDPE grass pavers are categorized by the grade of plastic raw material used.
- Recycled HDPE: The most economical option, made from recycled plastic waste. This type supports green building concepts and is usually produced in black or dark grey.
- Virgin HDPE: Made from pure plastic resin with maximum UV resistance. This type does not become brittle easily and has higher elasticity for long-term use in extreme weather.

FAQ
GRASS PAVER FAQ
What is an HDPE grass paver and what are its advantages over concrete?
An HDPE grass paver is an open-cell ground paving structure made from high-density recycled plastic. Its advantages include very low weight, easy transport, much faster installation, and high flexibility that prevents cracking when the ground shifts.
What load can an HDPE grass paver carry?
The material can carry loads of tens of tons per square meter, depending on how well the soil foundation below is compacted. This is more than enough for private driveways, SUV parking and even emergency fire access lanes.
How well does it let rainwater soak in?
The open-cell design creates natural porosity. Rainwater soaks straight into the ground below, removing the risk of puddles, reducing the load on city drainage and preserving local groundwater.
Is HDPE plastic resistant to sunlight and extreme weather?
High-quality HDPE usually contains anti-UV stabilizers that protect the plastic from weathering under strong sunlight. The material does not become brittle easily, withstands extreme temperature changes and has a very long outdoor service life.
