Geotextile Installation Method

Geotextile Installation Method

The first step of the geotextile installation method is to roll out the geotextile slowly and release it without any visible wrinkles or folds in the material. The geotextile must be rolled out in the machine direction, straight and perpendicular or parallel to the axis of the embankment. Perpendicular direction.

Geotextile Embankment Fill

During installation, the geotextile must never be dragged over muddy ground or over sharp objects that could damage it. The cover fill must be placed on top of the geotextile in such a way that a layer at least 200 mm thick lies between the geotextile and the wheels of the grading equipment.

Leveling the Layers

The heavy equipment used to level the layers must be restricted so that ruts in the first lift over the geotextile are no deeper than 75 mm, to avoid excessive loosening of the geotextile. In the geotextile installation method, heavy equipment is not allowed to turn on the first lift of fill over the geotextile.

When using geotextile for access roads, once a length of 15 m has been reached, filling of the access road must continue before the central section is filled. The access road must always stay 15 m ahead of the central fill. The mud wave in front of the fill must be kept moving ahead so that it does not shift onto the edges of the geotextile.

Geotextile Damage

Geotextile can be damaged during installation, for example by tears, holes or failed seams, often caused by conditions around the damaged area. This must be anticipated by repairing the damage before continuing with the geotextile installation. Tears or holes can be repaired by patching the damaged geotextile with a piece of the same type placed over the damaged area. The patch must be sewn neatly and securely.
