Types of Geomembrane You Should Know
Geomembrane
Geomembrane looks like an ordinary plastic sheet, but it is actually quite different. It works as a waterproof layer that does not leak easily and resists acidic liquids, and geomembrane is available in thicknesses from thin to very thick. Below we look at the types of geomembrane you should know.
Geomembrane has been widely used for decades. Yet many construction workers have not used it yet, especially for building shrimp or fish ponds. Today, geomembrane is recommended for good pond construction, because its impermeability and effective waterproofing prevent the environmental problems that commonly occur in aquaculture
Types of Geomembrane
Geomembrane is one of the most common geosynthetic products on the market. It comes in several types, each with a different function, as explained below
LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene)
This type of geomembrane is made by ethylene copolymerization at low pressure and temperature. LLDPE geomembrane is very flexible and easy to spread out, but it is slightly thinner than other types of geomembrane.
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene)
HDPE geomembrane is the type most widely used as a liner for shrimp ponds and salt ponds. HDPE is highly resistant to corrosion and can be used with any type of water, such as industrial wastewater containing many chemical residues from production. PT. Petra Nusa Elshada, one of the leading geosynthetics distributors, sells HDPE geomembrane with a service life of more than 10 years.
FPP (Flexible Polypropylene)
FPP geomembrane is more expensive and of higher quality than HDPE, but this type is not suitable for aquaculture ponds. It is made from resin polymerized with ethylene propylene rubber and polypropylene. FPP geomembrane is usually used in larger industries, such as factories.
EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)
EVA geomembrane is three times better in quality and flexibility than LLDPE. It can also withstand high and low temperatures as well as ultraviolet radiation. EVA geomembrane is made from a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate, which has a slight odor.
