Geonet: Functions and Price
Geonet is a geosynthetic product used as a drainage layer. It is made of HDPE in a net (mesh) form and serves as drainage beneath embankments. It can withstand loads of up to 500 kPa while still functioning well. Before discussing geonet price, let’s look at how it works.
Geonet can replace conventional materials such as gravel and sand, thanks to its main advantages: it is easy to use, quick to install and cost-effective. A geonet consists of continuous polymer ribs that intersect at sharp angles.
When these ribs are opened, they form fairly wide apertures arranged like a net. The main function of this product is to act as a drainage system that conveys liquids.
Geonet Functions
The main function of a geonet is to convey liquids, so its in-plane flow capacity, or transmissivity, is the key property to consider. Durability and material quality are also important.
At first glance, a geonet does look similar to a geogrid. Both are geosynthetic products widely used in construction projects, but they differ in function. A geonet conveys drainage flow in the plane of the material, while a geogrid is used for soil reinforcement.
A geonet also has a fair amount of tensile strength, but it is lower than that of a geogrid, which is why it is mainly used for drainage applications. There are several geonet types, such as GSE Geonet, which is produced to form a three-dimensional drainage structure that can replace sand in gravel drainage systems.
Besides the type above, there is also GSE Geocomposite, which includes a geotextile and is needed when the drainage structure is in direct contact with the soil surface. The geotextile is heat-bonded to one or both sides of the net. A geonet can also be combined with geotextile when needed to improve friction characteristics with other geosynthetic materials.
