Geotextile as a Vertical Garden

Geotextile as a Vertical Garden

Geotextile

Geotextile is a geosynthetic product made from polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP) polymers. As we know, there are 2 types of geotextile: woven geotextile and non-woven geotextile. They differ in how they are made, and these differences in manufacturing also lead to different functions in use, including as a geotextile vertical garden.

When people hear the word geotextile, they usually associate it with construction. However, geotextile is not only used in construction. It can also be used as an aesthetic, decorative material. One example is the use of non-woven geotextile for vertical gardens.

What Is a Vertical Garden?

What is a vertical garden system? A vertical garden is an innovative planting medium that adds beauty and a natural feel to certain areas. Vertical gardens are generally installed vertically on upright surfaces, using areas such as walls as a planting medium. This also reduces the planting area needed, because no pots are required.

Conventional vs Geotextile

So what is the difference between an ordinary (conventional) vertical garden and a vertical garden using geotextile? A conventional vertical garden needs a steel frame as its main support, plus plant pots as the planting medium. The pots then have to be fixed to the steel frame, which can cause damage in the long term.

Vertical garden with geotextile

A vertical garden made with geotextile needs neither a steel frame nor pots. The geotextile can be fixed directly to the wall, with ready-made planting pockets in the geotextile. The pockets are sewn, so they are much stronger. The non-woven geotextile used also has the following advantages:

  1. Resistance to UV rays and weathering
  2. Meets GRI and ASTM standards that guarantee the strength of the geotextile.
  3. Because it is non-woven geotextile, it can absorb water and let it pass, which makes watering a vertical garden easy.

PT. Petra Nusa Elshada supplies non-woven geotextile for vertical gardens and also offers ready-to-use vertical gardens. The geotextile used for vertical gardens has a weight of 300 GSM.
