Geomembrane Price and Why Quality Matters

Geomembrane Price and Why Quality Matters

Geomembrane is a waterproof liner made from HDPE. The material contains carbon black and UV stabilisers so it withstands all weather conditions and a wide range of chemicals. HDPE is also one of the strongest plastics, able to withstand temperatures of 120 degrees Celsius. Before comparing geomembrane price, it helps to understand what drives quality.

In geosynthetics, Geomembrane is commonly used to line embung (small retention reservoirs), raw water reservoirs, shrimp ponds, fish ponds, salt ponds, leach pads and other applications that need a waterproof layer. On many construction projects, geomembrane price is the main deciding factor.

By 2021, Geomembrane had become a common material used on many construction projects, and the number of geomembrane manufacturers and distributors grew. With fierce competition, there is no denying that geomembrane price is a key factor for a supplier or manufacturer to win a construction project.

Some manufacturers and distributors have started replacing virgin HDPE with recycled material (which does not meet ASTM standards) to offer the lowest price. Today there are several grades of geomembrane quality:

  1. 100% recycled geomembrane (with lower tensile strength)
  2. Geomembrane mixed with recycled material (with medium tensile strength)
  3. Geomembrane made from 100% virgin material (with high tensile strength, GRI standard)

For construction work, sustainability and long service life should be considered when choosing a geomembrane. Geomembranes made from lower-spec or recycled material are prone to cracking and do not hold up well when exposed to the weather.

As a distributor that is committed to material quality, PT. PETRA NUSA ELSHADA always recommends geomembranes that meet the GRI Standard:
